RNSA: The Navy’s Yacht Club

With an association to the area that spans 85 years, the Royal Naval Sailing Association (Medway Branch) is one of a number of voluntary and private organisations that enjoys the Medway and its environs.

Since the dockyard’s closure in 1984, the branch has proudly maintained an unbroken link of continuity between the naval community and the river itself.

During this time, its fortunes have found it living within the dockyard precincts, then for a number of years, on the opposite side of the river, courtesy of the Royal Engineers, before returning to the dockyard side in the late 2000’s.

Since then it has been for the most part located at Mast Slip, adjacent to the great covered slips and Turk’s Yard.

As part of a wider organisation, which itself has undergone changes in recent years, it now sees itself at the dawn of a new era where it intends to play a greater and more vital role in developing the Medway as a resource that is accessible to the entire community.

With this mission in mind it has developed the following vision document, which outlines its ambition to transform Mast Slip into the hub for a wider Medway Maritime Community, providing accessibility to the river for generations to come.
